H.E.L.P. of Charlotte County invites the community to join with them as they work to drive out hunger in Charlotte County this Saturday May 30th from 11 am to 2pm at the Charlotte Harbor Events & Conference Center in Punta Gorda.  The goal is to raise enough funds to fill as many semi-trucks with non-perishable items for Charlotte County food pantries as possible.  The current financial situation is causing many more people to seek assistance in feeding their families. Our local food banks want to meet the community’s needs but they are being depleted quickly each month, forcing them to close their doors for the remainder of the month, some permanently. This means that hundreds of families in Charlotte County go without desperately needed food assistance each month. We have been offered matching grants up to $22,500. Please help us take advantage of this wonderful opportunity of raising $45,000 in one day!

The Phyllis Wiedewitsch Memorial Food Drive is a free family oriented event.  We request that you bring non-perishable food items. In return, you will receive a free ticket to be used at the event.  There will be 50/50 drawing every hour, a prize wheel, free gifts & door prizes, Chinese Auction, Tupperware Demonstrations and a Children’s Play Corner.  Application has also been made to the Guinness Book of World Records for the event to be recognized as the largest Tupperware Party in the World.  A portion of the proceeds from Tupperware Sales will go to support the food pantry project.

At noon a special ceremony honoring Ana Romilla, former CEO of the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition for her years of dedicated service to our community.

Mrs. Phyllis Wiedewitsch was an active volunteer in Charlotte County for several years before her death in 2008.  Phyllis and her husband Jerry knew that children have value and need our support. One program she brought to life was a free community dinner at a local church every Wednesday, which continues to this day.  In addition, she volunteered at the Homeless Coalition, served as a Youth Leader at Peace Lutheran Church and helped at several children’s and homeless outreach events. Phyllis’ love of children and her community is still helping local families today  .
